Video shown by Dhruv Rathi
Protests broke out in Kerala following the telecast of the film ‘The Kerala Story’ on April 5. In response, the CPI(M)’s youth wing, the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), screened a video titled ‘The Kerala Story True or Fake’ by YouTuber Dhruv Rathi in various locations throughout the state. Simultaneously, the Congress youth wing marched to the local Doordarshan office at night to protest.
Kerala CM also protested
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had previously expressed opposition to the film’s airing on Doordarshan and requested that it be removed. He claimed that this would only “increase communal tension” ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Why was the film opposed?
In fact, the CPI(M) and Congress claim that the film ‘The Kerala Story’ is propaganda based on false claims and attempts to paint a negative picture of the state’s people. Both parties claimed that this is the BJP’s plan to divide the country communally.
At the same time, the BJP claimed that the film’s subject is real, while the Left and Congress are protesting for no apparent reason.
